Statement of Purpose (SOP) example of a successful candidate for American university
Data analytics has immense importance in all industries including Electrical and Electronics Engineering sector. By leveraging data analytics techniques, engineers can identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in the data, which can be used to optimize the performance of the systems and devices. Data analytics can be used to monitor the performance of power grids, identify areas of high energy consumption, and optimize power distribution to minimize waste. It can also be used to improve the efficiency of electronic circuits, identify faults and predict failures, and optimize the design of electronic devices.
I qualified as an Electrical and Electronics engineer in 2015 and went on to work for 5.9 years. I worked in the customer service industry in a fast paced environment and had to take on several challenges. I handled multiple responsibilities such as training and coaching simultaneously with customer service and relations. Hiring and Payroll, lead generation and data maintenance were the other tasks I handled. In particular, I found data maintenance and analysis to be vital for all my duties and it led to a greater interest in me to learn more about this topic. It has immense possibilities for the present and the future.
I would like to undergo training in order to become a data analyst. The topics I wish to study are database management, SQL, programming in Python and R, use of data visualization tools, statistical analysis, use of AI/ML and related topics.
This program is my first choice. It starts by giving students a sound training in the basics to familiarize them with what is to follow. Thereafter, the course proceeds at a rapid pace with focus on all topics of studies. The course is well-structured and it is modular with students having the freedom to choose electives. Training is comprehensive, comprised of classroom lectures coupled with practical project work. Students are evaluated on an ongoing basis to test their knowledge.
Why this university
This university is my first choice since it ranks high in the global index and it is also one of the oldest and most respected institutions for higher learning in the USA. The focus is on all-round development of a student instead of just imparting professional training. Its faculty members are held in high regard for their learning and wisdom. Its degrees are universally recognized since graduates show outstanding capabilities at work. It will be a privilege for me to study here, work in the lab, study in the library and mingle with students on campus.
The USA is undoubtedly the world leader in quality education. I have always admired the way education is modeled here to give students the best teaching by qualified teachers and to teach students to think on their own and develop their knowledge store rather than simply pass exams. Students here do not just acquire degrees, they have exceptional knowledge and capabilities once they complete a course.
Experience
I have over 5.9 years of work experience. I have handled various tasks such as training and coaching, customer service, data management, hiring, lead generation and payroll management. I was in charge of training new hires and responsible for training need identification as well as TNA-based training. I have also trained trainers as part of my duties. I have prepared product knowledge test every fortnight and have conducted refresher courses for agents. I also prepare and analyze internal and external quality reports for management review.
My intensive efforts led to my being awarded the best teacher award on Teachers Day. I also won the best employee award and the best trainer award.
Classes/projects
I did a group project on Capacitively Coupled Sensor System NE555 timer. A touch on the touch pad triggers the system.
I did another mini project on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) for remote supervision and control of systems as well as automatic fault isolation in overhead equipment.
My major project was High Sensitive LDR based Power Saver for Streetlight Control System. The LDR serves as the light sensor and is interfaced with an AT89S52 microcontroller board that automatically switches on and switches off streetlights or hoardings or signboards based on the light level. It goes further by incorporating an IR sensor to sense the presence of human beings or cars and switch on and switch off lights.
Leadership/community experience
I was active in the college’s co-curricular activities. I represented my college as the Student Brand Board Member for the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers. I was marketing executive for 3 years for ADASTRA, a national-level techno-management symposium conducted by the student branch of IEEE-SNIST.
I have worked for Street Cause, an NGO that supports weaker sections of society and have been commended as the best volunteer.
I am a go getter and will work hard to achieve my goal. I have engineering training and have hands-on work experience that has given me practical knowledge. I intend to put in my best efforts to succeed in studies and justify the university granting admission to me.
Career goals and how this course will help
Data drives business and is crucial to decision making at all levels. Indian industries and businesses are modernizing their operations and need highly qualified data analysts to help them derive actionable intelligence. India is emerging as a global as many international companies are conducting business operations here. I am sure to start as a junior analyst and rapidly climb to the post of head of a business analytics department in a company. My overseas education will be an asset.
