Statement of Purpose (SOP) Master’s in Information Systems and Technologies
My interest and passion for the world of computer science started at an early age, when I got my first PC. Ever since then, I had always wanted to know and learn more about such technologies. In this present day and age, computers and digital technologies play a dominant role in everyone’s lives. The world is going through a massive digital revolution, where every organization or institution is opting for digital services, in order to connect with the global village and enjoy networking provisions within a globalized environment. It has raised the relevance of IT professionals everywhere, to sublime extents. Underneath, I have elaborated specific details about my academic ventures, work experiences, indulgences in project-based activities, extra-curricular achievements and a brief note on my sense of values. I have elaborated the same to reflect upon my passion for the subject I wish to pursue, which is Master’s in Information Systems and Technologies, from the University of North Texas.
I passed my matriculation exam with a score of 8.3 CGPA from Narayana High School, and my intermediate exams from Narayana Junior College, with a score of 85.2%. I graduated from the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KL University, with an annual score of 7.25. I studied every necessary subject that lays down the basic fundamental aspects or teachings of the aforementioned discipline, during my graduation-period. Hence, my interest grew even further and I went on to complete diploma courses and projects pertaining towards the field. Currently, every other form of experience has collectively equipped me with the knowledge-base and skill-set required to pursue higher education in the aforementioned discipline. I will strive for excellence, utilizing the fair amount of the experience/knowledge that I have and thrive with the enthusiasm to always learn more. To achieve such heights I must also study in a place where I can learn, relearn and hone myself to become a distinguished individual.
On a personal note, I always wanted to travel to the USA, influenced by Hollywood movies and other Western mediums. But now it seems my cause has shifted towards a professional motive, wherein my travel to the USA will be academically and professionally beneficial, on several accounts. Information systems and technologies emerged from the USA and flourished remarkably. The legacy of growth and expansion left behind by some of the industry’s tech giants is something students like me can vehemently learn from. We can understand and learn about emerging technologies with sheer profundity and realize how such revolutions occurred in the first place. I can also visit historically relevant sights, like Silicon Valley, and witness innovation in person. It is evident that the USA is the foremost place to study for anyone, including me, who wishes to establish a career in the aforementioned discipline.
The University of North Texas bears a reputation of education excellence. It has an elaborate course-structure, and many well-known personas/public figures in the field have passed out from the university. I have learned from alumni that the faculty is sharp and well-equipped to meet every academic need of students. The courses are practically-oriented, hence bridging the gap between theoretical and practical understandings. So, the university adds towards my confirmed decision to travel and study in the States. To make my skill-set and knowledge-based clearer, here are some specifications about my projects and subjects.
I did a project on the development of a Voice Controlled Robot using Arduino. In the project, we assigned commands to a robot, and observed it performing the task in accordance with the given command. It serves as a handy tool for humans in situations where a person is unable to reach particular spots/places. I did another project on the development of a Smart Home Security System. It was a safety device that triggered an alarm, notifying the required authorities. I also did a project on Smart GSM Based Anti-Drunk Car Alert System. It basically notifies when the driver is drunk and reports it to officials. My final project was on an Advanced Car Parking System. The device helped in acquiring vehicular details and allotting parking-space for the car without any human presence. I completed diploma courses in the following as well:

My extra-curricular activities include my participation at a Project Expo, serving as a member of the college’s Voice Club, participating in an Electronics Workshop, a PULSE Event, serving as an active member of the NSS, volunteering for Blood Donation Camps and working for a Science fair.I have gained first-hand experience of indulging in an active-work environment when I interned at Embedded IT Solutions. I worked for the Testing and Designing of PCB boards.
From all such experiences, it is quite clear that I have significantly honed my skill-set and knowledge-base that cater towards the aforementioned discipline. The projects tested my skills regarding practical applications, while I simultaneously studied theoretical aspects of the course in class. My extra-curricular ventures further added to my leadership and community experiences. For instance, my participation in various events made me interact with people outside my community and culture, hence opening my mind up towards the diversity enshrined in this country. My time as an NSS volunteer and member of college clubs further honed my leadership and managerial skills. I came to value the essence of strong leadership and social values that are inclusive, not divisive.
Developing an interest in the aforementioned discipline gave me some values that will indeed stick with me forever. One is to improve everyone’s lives through the development of such incredible technologies. The projects mentioned previously are all centric towards one primary thing, the betterment of human-lives. I believe much more can be achieved and accomplished, including the repercussions we are facing on an ecological level. In other words, my value-base tells me that through such emerging technologies we can actually address the prevalent issues pertaining towards our planet, the eco-system and anthropocentric drawbacks.
India is well on its way to becoming one of the leaders in IT and Computer Science. This makes it beneficial for aspirants like me, as the sea of opportunity becomes vast and amusing. Employers in the country also take a preference for applicants possessing foreign degrees. So, I would conveniently be able to apply and land myself in a high-paying and acknowledgeable post, after having obtained a degree from the University of North Texas. While there’s an expanse of career opportunities in IT, I have a keen interest in exploring the world of robotics. The innovative aspects and potential of this particular industry is far beyond fascinating. The fiction of such developments/innovations is itself staggering, so in reality, indulging with such technologies would be a dream come true.
